CRACKS IN THE SKY

I sat by a lake drawing this while on a weekend away at Jamison. It was one of those boys weekends where you wake up at 7 in the morning and crack a can of beer.

RAMBLIN' GLENN ELLIOTT

While at Gaslight I did a couple of these portraits of staff members as famous blues artists. These were done in the style of Robert Crumb. Glenn now runs the distribution company Gryphon Entertainment who distribute the Rocket collection of DVDs.

SMITHS FRIDAY

In the latter years of Gaslight Music I worked in the warehouse with Mike Connarchy Jesse Malignaggi and Damian Chinn. All four of us were huge fans of Morrissey and The Smiths. After lunch each Friday we would just play Smiths Albums. It was a great tradition and everybody who worked there connected the sound of their music to the end of the working week.

BOOBS MAHONEY

BOOBS MAHONEY

While I was working at the Shock Records Warehouse I worked with two girls Angela Elphick and Kylie Neilsen. The girls shared an ongoing joke about a fiction girl called Boobs Mahoney. I really don't know the story however Ange jokingly said to me one day "You'd be able to draw her Graeme." It was at the time that I was beginning to work on My Life On Public Transport and as a warm up, Much to the girls surprise, I did the drawing.

ANGE ELPHICK DRAWING

ANGELA ELPHICK

In 2006 when I had done the Boobs Mahoney drawing for the girls at Shock, I had also started this drawing of Ange. Half way through I realized I didn't know this girl that well and she may not like it. So I shelved the idea. After working with her for a couple of years I mentioned it to her and I decided to finish it.

The concept at the time was to portray her in the same fictional guise as Boobs Mahoney. Ange didn't dress like this. She was a very intelligent girl and I wasn't happy with the drawing until I got the right expression on her face. She returned to Sydney in 2007.
