DRACULA

I spent hours copying characters from comic books. I did hundreds of these.

BIRD ON A WIRE

BIRD ON A WIRE

I first got into drawing by doing these doodles of song titles and making them into various shapes. This one is a bird and it features the titles of Leonard Cohen songs.

THE USE OF ASHES

THE USE OF ASHES

I absolutely love the music of Tom Rapp and Pearls Before Swine. It was incredibly inspirational stuff this is a collection of titles of their songs put into the shape of a fire.

ANOTHER LIFE AND TIME

ANOTHER LIFE AND TIME

I have no idea what this was about.

BRAVE HUNTER BEE

THE BRAVE HUNTER - BEE

In 1976 I wrote this unorthodox children's story about a hunters

journey through a forest. It was a parody on all the people who were entering my life. The Bee being someone who moved from home to home because he had nowhere to sleep.

THE BRAVE HUNTER - DIGGER

THE BRAVE HUNTER - DIGGER

I can't remember who this was probably someone who was stirring

up a bit of trouble.

THE BRAVE HUNTER - NEEDLES

THE BRAVE HUNTER - NEEDLES

Well, this was obviously someone with a drug problem.

SELF PORTRAIT 1976

SELF PORTRAIT 1976

I had discovered Hyronimus Bosch and Brugel the elder when I bought the first two Pearls Before Swine albums. I was trying to incorporate a little of them in this drawing.

TO PLEASE A CROWD

TO PLEASE A CROWD

In 1976 I read a book called The Ship Of Fools. It was written in 1494 by Sebastian Brandt and was basically about human folly. The book was the inspiration for Bosch's painting of the same name. Most of the drawings I did in the next few years were based on idea's from that book.

I can't remember a lot about these drawings but I think this one was about being different.

issue 2 and The Rock in issue 3.

BYKER HILL

BYKER HILL

Byker Hill is an old English folk song which I first heard by Martin Carthy. There was a lot of these landscapes nearby where I was staying in Queenscliffe.

HUNTER IN YHE GRASS

HUNTER IN THE GRASS

I did a lot of these drawings in Queenscliffe. I had been looking for somewhere that I could stay in isolation and just draw for a couple of weeks. My brother organized a bungalow in a defense facility there. It was totally isolated and the only person I spoke to for two weeks was the local shop keeper. I guess this drawing sort of summed up how I was feeling.
